Albania
The Quran has played a vital role in shaping Albania's religious landscape since Islam was introduced during the Ottoman period in the 15th century. After decades of strict state atheism under the communist regime, which banned all religious texts and practices, the post-1990 revival saw the Quran return as a centerpiece of spiritual life for the majority Muslim population. Albanian scholars have translated the holy text into the Albanian language—notably pioneered by figures like Sherif Ahmeti—making its teachings accessible across the country. Today, the Quran is taught in madrasas and mosques while coexisting within Albania's uniquely secular political framework and renowned tradition of interfaith harmony among Muslims, Catholics, and Orthodox Christians.
