How it works

How it works

How editions are found, checked, credited and published — and how the downloads stay free.

1. Finding editions

We track translations through library catalogues, publishers, universities and readers who write in. Anything already published for free distribution, in the public domain, or cleared by its rights holder can be listed.

2. Checking the file

Before an edition goes up we confirm the translator and publisher, check the scan is complete and legible, count the pages, and split long works into volumes so nobody has to download a 400 MB file on a phone.

3. Credit and context

Each edition lists its translator, publisher, year, language, script and the countries where that language is read. Verified editions carry a mark; permission-pending scans say so plainly.

4. Downloading

Click the download button and the PDF opens — no sign-up, no e-mail, no waiting page. Volume sets are downloaded one volume at a time.

5. Keeping it free

Ads on browse pages cover hosting and bandwidth. Downloads themselves carry no ads and never will.

6. Corrections

If a file is wrong, incomplete or shouldn’t be here, tell us and we act — usually within a few days.
